Last Friday, Alex and I had another date. This time we went to the Shantzholm Family Farm near Kitchener. At Shantzholm there are lots of animals that the children can get close to including “neigh’s” and “baas”. So the first thing we did was check out the animals. The calves and pigs were adorable! And there was a donkey who made the craziest noises.
After the animals we went over to the “play” area. There was a small riding tractor that Alex was in LOVE with! I think we need to get him his own… perhaps we will write to Santa this year.
We hung out in the hay bale maze where there were plenty of climbers and had fun trying to figure out which way to go.
Then there was an announcement that we could partake in a hay ride! So of course, we had to go. The ride went through the fields, we got to check out the pumpkin fields and the amazing colours of Fall. The ride really reminded me of the beauty of South-Western Ontario.
After the ride we went into the pumpkin patch and picked our own pumpkins! I had never done that before, so it was as much fun for me as it was for Alex. He kept trying to choose a squash, but eventually picked out a cool small pumpkin. I chose a pumpkin with lots of “warts” on it. I thought it was pretty cool.
On our way out, we ran into our friends Sarah, Jeremy and their little girl Gracyn. Gracyn is Alex’s girlfriend 😉 So we went back and saw the animals again and the kids had a blast feeding the pigs corn kernels.
It was a beautiful day. I can’t wait to do it all again next year! We will plan it for a Saturday next year so that Matt can make it.
