Crazy Busy… But Fun Labour Day Weekend

Matt and I were lucky enough to both have a 4 day long weekend – so we packed as much in as we could.  For the last little while we have been doing some redecorating at our place.  Nothing too drastic – just some repainting for the most part.  My brother, who was doing the painting, finished up in our rec room on Friday while Matt, Alex and I ventured to Ikea.  I could spend hours in that store – there is just so much cool stuff.  We went there to go get a new tv console because last weekend we gave in and purchased…  a 46″ plasma tv (and a PS3)!  Ikea is about 90 minutes away so there is always a question as to how Alex will react.  He was perfect on the way there and slept most of the way – but the way home was a different story.  He cried and cried which was weird since it was his normal nap time and usually falls asleep in the car no problem.  Eventually he slept for about 20 min.  We also bought a new shelving unit to organize the crazy toy situation that has grown in our rec room.  When we have pictures back up on the walls I will take pics.  I rented a carpet cleaner that day too and cleaned the carpets to make the room extra fresh.

Saturday however we woke to a nasty surprise.  Poor Mason must have gotten into something because he had been sick 7 times on the freshly cleaned carpets.  Thank goodness we still had the carpet cleaner!  My poor boy was out of sorts all day getting sick on and off and really just laying around.  He looked so uncomfortable.  Saturday night I actually gave him Pepto to ease his tummy and it seemed to work because by Sunday morning he was back to normal.  Poor guy.

Sunday morning Alex and I went on a bike ride to a different park than our regular one, and he had a blast!  Last time we were there he could hardly walk – now he was running all over!

Saturday and Sunday we put the room back together and things look pretty sweet.  Now we just need new leather furniture…  Has anyone ever bought leather from Ikea?  We found a set there we liked, but it seems weird buying that sort of item at Ikea, usually everything comes dismantled in a box.  We had to show it off and had some neighbours over for dinner and drinks Sunday night.  It was lots of fun.  The girls chatted.  The guys played Tiger Woods Golf.  The night went way too late (3am) and we paid the price this morning.  Thank goodness Matt let me sleep in a bit – I really needed it (red wine headaches are the worst!).

Today to celebrate Labour day we just vegged during the morning and this afternoon we went to a local hiking area called the Old Grove.  It is one of my fav places  to go in the Fall  – the only downfall is that it is located beside the city sewage treatment plant so it can get a little smelly….  Alex loved the walk and got to explore a bit.  My favourite picture is the one with him holding my hand – love it!

Honest Scrap Award

Catherine at I Smell Elephants  gave me an Honest Scrap Award.  Thanks, Catherine!  You rock!

Here’s what I’m supposed to do:

1. Choose 7 blogs that you find brilliant in content or design

2. Show the 7 winners’ names and links on your blog, and leave a comment informing them that they have won the Honest Scrap award (I hope you just find yourself here and play along).

This part is hard – so many of you already have received this award.

3. List at least 10 honest things about yourself.

  1. I need to dye my hair every 6-8 weeks due to greying.  I’ve been dying my hair since I was in my early 20’s for grey coverage.
  2. I have 2 tattoos – one is a tribal sort of design across my lower back and the other is a ladybug on my hip.  A third one is coming this Fall.   Not something you expect when you see me – or think of when you think Librarian.
  3. My dad died when his canoe capsized in Lake Huron in 1996.  I had a big fight with him before he went out on the water – and it continues to bother me that we never resolved our differences.
  4. I have a lot of great friends – but no real ‘best friend’.  Time just drew us all in different directions.
  5. I am a fan of Jon and Kate plus 8.  I first started watching it to admire the kids since they are part Korean.
  6. I am not a fan of kimchi – I know – I have to work on that one.
  7. I’m a horrible procrastinator.  I always delay house work and assignments. It was really bad in University.
  8. I used to be a real picky eater.  I still am to an extent – but it got MUCH better when I lived in Ottawa and tried a lot of different ethnic foods.
  9. I too, like Christine, wish I had more crafting time.  I have many projects on the go – but never seem to have enough time to finish them.   Who knows how the fall craft show will go – especially combined with my procrastination problem.
  10. I hate cleaning – probably due to my days as a housekeeper at a local hotel.  Now that I’m back to work I am going to arrange a housekeeper to come in every week.

There – that wasn’t too painful
